Sexual Misconduct Prevention and Response Training with WOTVS Special Guest, RAINN

Tuesday, April 6
10:00AM PST / 1:00PM EST

Mara White, LMSW
Training Manager
Consulting Services

Continuing with WOTVS’ practice of tapping experts in specific fields, we have hired RAINN to develop customized trainings for WOTVS. RAINN, the nation's largest anti-sexual violence organization, will provide our members with education to increase awareness around sexual misconduct and strategies for prevention. RAINN helps organizations meet the complexities of today’s climate by moving beyond compliance toward values-based, sustainable solutions that promote safe and healthy communities.

Leveraging the expertise and insights as the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization, RAINN’s consulting team will deliver a customized, interactive virtual training to increase awareness around sexual misconduct and provide participants with the knowledge to apply strategies for prevention and response.

In this 90 minute session, we will begin with exploring the complexities of sexual misconduct and how common misconceptions play a role in the experiences of survivors. Participants will deepen their understanding of the link between power dynamics and common responses to trauma. With this foundational knowledge, participants will learn skills and strategies for creating safe, supportive communities. These strategies will include practical tools for setting and protecting boundaries, intervening in potentially unsafe or uncomfortable situations, and supporting survivors in sensitive, trauma-informed ways.

This session will not be recorded.

ABOUT RAINN

RAINN is the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization, leading the country in providing services that are victim-centered and trauma-informed. RAINN utilizes best and promising practices in the field of sexual assault prevention and response, as well as lessons learned from the over 3 million users of the National Sexual Assault Hotline and Online hotline.

If you or anyone you know is struggling with concerns related to sexual violence, the National Sexual Assault Hotline provides free, anonymous 24/7 support via the hotline (800.656.4673) or through the online hotline. RAINN’s website also has a lot of information on supporting loved ones who are survivors, helping yourself heal if you’ve been directly affected by sexual violence, and how to be part of creating safer communities.

As a Training Manager on RAINN's Consulting Services team, Mara is dedicated to developing and delivering educational content that helps individuals and communities better prevent and respond to sexual violence. She has over 10 years of experience in the anti-violence field with a primary focus on building sexual violence service and awareness programs for nonprofits. She has founded several collaboratives and programs during her time in the field, focused specifically on serving rural communities. Mara’s experience in the field is varied and includes direct service provision, program administration, prevention, and community engagement.

Mara earned her Master’s of Science in Macro Social Work from the University of Tennessee, where she graduated with honors. She is currently licensed in Tennessee and in Arizona.
