What Does it Mean to be Certified

Women Owned?

Being a Women-Owned company means that you are at least 51 percent ownedmanaged and controlled by a woman or group of women. Being Certified means your company has been WBENC or WEConnect International Certified as a Women-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE).

Women of the Vine & Spirits DOES NOT certify companies. The 51 percent qualifier is established by the guidelines and stipulations of the certifying bodies, WBENC and WEConnect International.

Why is Certification Important?

  • Getting Certified counts towards companies' Supplier Diversity Spend/Goals.
  • Getting Certified is Getting Visible: Many major corporations rely on a variety of local and national certifying agencies to help them find diverse-owned businesses.
  • A Seal of Certification is a formal guarantee to corporations that they are purchasing goods and/or services from a particular group of business owners.
  • Many firms will not begin the relationship building process if you do not have current certification.
  • Suppliers may submit products or services for consideration through company supplier diversity departments and/or online through a dedicated supplier diversity portal.

“BuzzBallz, LLC is thrilled to be part of Women of the Vine & Spirits. We will gain the attention of wholesalers and retailers for our unique brands and nimble capabilities. BuzzBallz has been a registered NWBOC organization since 2015, and WBENC since 2016.  Both organizations have been helpful in growing our business, but having a specific alcohol industry women-owned certification through Women of the Vine & Spirits will assist BuzzBallz to compete with larger suppliers.”

  Tracy Frisbie

Vice President of Marketing, Buzzballs, LLC

“Across the globe, women continue to earn, on average, less than one percent of the trillions of dollars spent on suppliers by large corporations and governments. WEConnect International’s new partnership with Women of the Vine & Spirits helps to bridge this gap, connecting more women-owned businesses, in more industries, to the resources, education, and networks needed to succeed in global value chains.”

– Elizabeth A. Vazquez

CEO & Co-Founder, WeConnect International

– Susan Kostrzewa
