As the distilled spirits industry continues to grow and evolve, education is an important part of understanding our heritage, celebrating the present and considering our opportunities for the future. Through a donation from Beam Suntory, the Women of the Vine & Spirits Foundation (501(c)(3) offered three (3) scholarships to the DISCUS 2021 Academy Executive Leadership Program.

DISCUS Academy participants have the opportunity to take courses a la carte or earn a specialty certificate in the 5 key subject domains of the spirits industry: Business Management & Finance, Sales & Marketing, Safety & Risk Management, Laws & Regulations and Leadership Development.

Join Rachel Harris, Vice President of On-Premise at Beam Suntory and share in a conversation with our scholarship recipients about their experience in the inaugural DISCUS program.

Women of the Vine & Spirits Foundation is currently accepting scholarship applications for Executive Leadership Program & Developing Leadership Program Scholarships to Attend DISCUS Academy in 2022. For the second year in a row, Beam Suntory is graciously funding three scholarships for The Executive Leadership Program. Breakthru Beverage Group is generously funding two scholarships for The Developing Leadership Program.

These scholarships are open to members and non-members of WOTVS as well as members and non-members of DISCUS. To learn more and apply, go here!

Once you register you will receive an email with the link to access the session.  If you need further assistance please Contact Olivia Campbell, Membership Coordinator, Women of the Vine & Spirits.

Rachel Harris is the Vice President of On-Premise at Beam Suntory.

She had planned to be a doctor.  But then discovered a passion for the hospitality industry; and today, she one of the highest-ranking females in our commercial organization.

She is  focused on paving a career path for women in the hospitality industry, empowering and advocating for integral roles within Beam Suntory and beyond.  As a result of her work, teams across the business are united with a common goal of continual expansion and excellence.

As Director, Ideation and Innovation for Diageo N.A., Brittany is responsible for insights, information and inspiration that fuel competitive strategies across categories, brands, innovations and acquisitions. During her 7 years at Diageo, she has led executive teams through the positioning and repositioning of some of the industry’s biggest and fastest growing trademarks including Bailey’s, Crown Royal and Bulleit, with a consumer first approach. Brittany has more than 14 years of experience leading brand and innovation strategy, consumer research, and campaign development in both local and global markets for blue chip companies across a broad range of sectors.

She is passionate about the bev-alc industry, its role in shaping culture at large, and has been an advocate and champion of a more diverse future for the industry. Currently she lives in Brooklyn with her husband, toddler and two dogs but originally hails from Virginia where she holds an M.S. in Communications Strategy from the VCU Brandcenter and a B.A. in Leadership Studies and Philosophy from the University of Richmond.

Jennifer Friedrichs was formerly the PA/DE State Manager for Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey. In her role she collaborated with her distributor partners within her markets on how best to drive revenue growth, deliver volume gains, increase gross profit margin, plan and effectively market and manage the Uncle Nearest brand, manage the budgets and optimize the supply chain and forecast accuracy.

She grew up in Scranton, PA and later relocated to the Southwest.  Her career in the alcohol beverage industry started in 2009 with (what was then) Southern Wine and Spirits of Arizona and continued through 2019.  Throughout her career at SGWS, she  worked as a Sales Representative, Sales Manager, Director and Trade Development Manager for top suppliers in multiple states. Additionally, while at SGWS she earned the WSET level 2 certificate for Wine & Spirits.

A New Jersey native and Graduate of Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Kristen moved to Florida in 2008 joining Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits by way of the Signature Luxury Wine & Spirits Division of Florida, where she held roles of increasing responsibility managing brands for 150+ Fine Wine & Craft Spirits suppliers.  After 7 years with Signature, Kristen moved into Florida-based Trade Development roles within both the Transatlantic Division, managing the Bacardi portfolio, then the SGWS Wine Division, managing large, strategic suppliers, before joining the Atlantic Corporate Team in 2018.  In her current role, Senior Director, Digital & Trade Development, Kristen manages strategic Digital/eCommerce initiatives, both B2B & B2C, for the Constellation portfolio of brands along with overseeing Trade Development activities across 15 US markets.

Throughout her nearly 13 years with Southern Glazer’s, Kristen has served as Board Member for the internal organization, VolunCheers, Board Member for the United Way Young Leaders Executive Committee, and has earned Level 1 Certification from the Court of Master Sommeliers, WSET Level 2 accreditation, and French Wine Scholar designation.
