The WOTVS Vine to Glass group was created to bring together those members working in the Vineyard and Winery sector and their supporting industries. This group is for winery owners, vintners, winemakers, cellar workers, lab technicians, viticulturists, vineyard workers, wine club managers, tasting room associates, wine tourism professionals, wine writers, wine scholars, wine educators, sommeliers, wine communicators, wine sales representatives, wine retailers and wine restauranteurs. We know that the Wine industry is a complex web of professionals which have unique challenges and opportunities and so together we want to support one another by fostering community through communication, sharing resources, concerns and content for the betterment of the industry as a whole. She holds a Level 2 Award in Wines and Spirits (WSET). Encouraged and inspired by her industry peers, she has had the honor of participating as a judge in regional wine competitions, which included the 2019 Maryland’s Governor’s Cup and Maryland’s Comptroller’s Cup.
Ms. Frelow has also discovered ways to celebrate minority owned winemakers, and connect with like-minded wine enthusiasts through the podcast, The Swirl Suite, hosted by Sarita Cheaves, Tanisha Townsend, Glynis Hill, and Ms.Frelow. The podcast (https://www.swirlsuite.com/),which features engaging interviews with wine professionals such as Melissa Schulte of Black Ankle Vineyards, Eric Turner of Hip Hop Juice Box, Burnie Williams of Chats Wine & Liquor, and wine makers at the Essence Wine Festival, serves as an inspiring resource for established and aspiring wine entrepreneurs.
The excitement revolving around Ms. Frelow’s wine tourism and education programs, aswell asherdedicationtosupportwinemakersofcolorandwomen-ownedwineries have inspired her to launch The Wine Concierge’s unique internet retailer business in the District of Columbia.
Rachel has spent the last 20 years in the wine industry building her family’s estate Boxwood Winery in Middleburg, Virginia. She was on the founding team at Boxwood, starting her career as Executive Vice President. Rachel was responsible for all aspects of operations: grape growing, winemaking, packaging, bottling, distribution, marketing and tasting room sales. During her tenure at Boxwood, she spearheaded the effort to establish the Middleburg Virginia American Viticultural Area.
Oceano Wines, Rachel’s new project, was co-founded by her husband Kurt Deutsch in 2016. SIP certified Spanish Springs located on the extreme coast of San Luis Obispo County is the closest vineyard to the Pacific in California. Their award-winning Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines are made in Napa by winemaker Marbue Marke.
